Students in years 1 and 2 are taught in mixed age groups in the Flexible Schulanfangsphase (Flex). At an early school age, children in a Flex group are between 5 and 8 years old.
At the centre of the model is the consideration of the different learning requirements of beginners. Lessons are individualized, i.e. the students work on different tasks at the same time. For
example, a "first grader" can already work on second-class tasks in German, while in mathematics he can still work on the number range up to 10. Self-organized and cooperative learning is aimed
at and practiced. The students have one to three school years individually to go through the flexible starting phase.
In the 2018/19 school year there are four Flex classes (A, B, C, D) with a maximum of 22 students each, each taught and supervised by a team of teachers (German/English-speaking) and an educator.
Teachers and educators work closely together, are in regular exchange and are constantly working on optimising the concept.
